Alix Art Gallery
In summary, this project is a multimedia advertising campaign for the Alix Art Gallery opening in Sarnia the summer of 2012 as the new identity and location of the former Gallery Lambton.
This gallery has important meaning to me as I have not only worked there for the past two summers but have been visiting and taking classes there since I was very young. It is the largest gallery and the only public art gallery in Lambton County and therefore is a significant part of local culture. When deciding what to do for my thesis, I knew I wanted to do an advertising campaign, and when a coworker mentioned the Gallery’s need for updated promotional material I thought I would take on that task in a fictional sense.

Fresh
Fresh was today! I think it went really well, it was great to see so many other projects, performances and presentations. I had never gone before but I was glad I did this year and was there from 9 until almost 5. Here is a photo of my set-up, luckily I could get a computer near a wall I was allowed to hang my poster. I got a lot of great comments on both the website and poster!

Budget Update
Should have added this earlier today, but…
45x 70 in. poster - $89 (actually a pretty good deal)
+ 20x 10 in. poster - $10.00
+ 11x 17 in. poster - $1.49 (funny what difference a few inches makes! Just because this one didn’t need a special printer or paper)
+ tax - $13.06
= $113.55
And then $1.50 for a blank DVD I bought brings my grand total toooooo:
$197.45 over the whole year.

Here is my motion graphic video ad! I am quite happy with it, I think it is my favourite part of the whole project. I think it ties everything together well especially I repeated the same images, colours, text and visual style of the rest of the project. The song and the bright colours just make me so happy!
This ad would be shown at the beginning of internet videos and on television.

And video is done! (I finished this before I went to the printer this morning)
This video is not an advertisement itself, but more is to provide additional information about the gallery and the downtown area for visitors of the site. In it I interview one of the curatorial assistants about what he is looking forward to in the new building (gallery space for installations!) and how it will contribute to the culture of downtown Sarnia. I wanted to compliment his dialogue with images of the gallery interior being built and also some visuals of the area surrounding the Alix. This includes the Bayside Mall, the Imperial Theatre, locally owned coffee shops, book stores, art dealers and other shops, and the Sarnia Waterfront which is host to several events and festivals throughout the year (including the ever popular Roger’s Bayfest) and a developing area for high-end real estate.

While I was waiting for my posters to print I had a good chat with a graphic designer who was also dropping off some files. He gave me some good advice about getting into the industry and advised me to spend the money on a decent business card printed on plike paper. He also recommended going into a design or marketing company to get them to review my resume and ask what kind of things they look for when hiring.
So that worked well that I had to wait for a while at the small print shop I ended up going to!

Watching my posters come out of the printer!! Excited to see the final result. Shown is my bus stop sized ad, 45x70 inches, which is likely taller than I am. At home I tried printing out a few 8.5 x 11 portions of it and piecing them together to get an idea of how it would look at full size, since I have learned that designs do not look the same on the screen as they do in print.
This particular poster would be one that would be shown in bus stops around Sarnia and other areas of Lambton County. A large portion of my demographic includes senior citizens and youth. These citizens are also largely users of public transit. Being downtown near the Bayside Mall bus terminal the Alix Art Gallery is easily accessible from anywhere in town including high schools and Lambton College.

My second banner is finished! It is a little bit different, this time I had everything appear on one frame rather than having several. This type of banner would appear as an advertisement on the top of another web page, and like the other one it will loop repeatedly and when clicked will link to my main site.
Also, I dropped my poster files off at the printer today and they should be ready this afternoon!
